Just added two gigs to the schedule page — Patsy’s Cowgirl Cafe this Thursday, and the downtown Austin Farmers’ Market on November 14.

OK, getting the word out last minute, but tomorrow evening (10/24), we’ll be playing the Texas River School’s moonlight float fundraiser again. This unique gig has us playing on a small raft, surrounded by kayaks and canoes, floating down Austin’s Lady Bird Lake (formerly known as Town Lake) to the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge to watch the bats emerge.

This event is a monthly benefit for the Texas River School, a nonprofit that’s run out of the Texas Rowing Center. The River School organizes canoe outings and environmental education for at-risk students in Austin.

There’s a potluck dinner at 5:30pm before the float, and we’ll be playing some music there on the dock beforehand. Around 6:15pm, the participants will board their boats and set off for the bridge, and we’ll be playing more tunes from the raft the whole way down.

Anyone is welcome to attend the event — it’s free of charge, though donations to the River School are much appreciated and you do need to bring a dish to participate in the potluck. If you don’t own a canoe or kayak, you can rent one from the Rowing Center and your rental fee ($15, I think) is passed on to the River School as your donation. If you’d like to rent one, call the Rowing Center in advance for a reservation; the event usually fills up each month.

The Texas Rowing Center is located behind Austin High School, on the north bank of the lake, east of MoPac. See their website for directions and contact information.

If you’d like to just come to the dock to hear us play awhile and skip the float, that’s fine too, but once again, a small donation to the River School would be appreciated.

Threadgill’s North brunch show this Sunday, Sept. 21

Sorry for the late notice, but we’re pleased to announce that we’ve snagged a brunch show at Threadgill’s North Lamar location (map) for this Sunday, September 21st. We’ll be playing 3 sets between 11am and 1pm.

We’re especially excited that we’ll be joined by our new bass player, Ginger Evans, for the gig.

Jamie will be out of town, so we’re disappointed he won’t be able to make this one, but we’re really excited about the show nonetheless and hope to see you there!

Memorial Day weekend show

We’re pleased to announce we’ll be back at Artz Rib House on the Sunday of the upcoming memorial day weekend; May 28th. As usual, we’ll do 2 sets, kicking off at around 7:15pm. Time to change the old strings and work a few rehearsals in!

OK, we’ve had a pretty long layoff—travel, work, and family stuff has kept all of us hopping. But it’s time to get this ball rolling again! We’ve got new shows coming up and new tracks to share with you.

First off, we’ve got a two-set gig coming up this Saturday, March 4, at Artz Rib House. More details on the schedule page.
